DON’T LIE FOR THE OTHER GUY™ LAUNCHES IN MEMPHIS … NSSF and ATF launched the Don’t Lie for the Other Guy™ public awareness campaign in Memphis with a press conference at the Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, City of Memphis and Memphis Police showing their commitment with retailers to help ensure firearms stay out of the hands of those not authorized to have them.

SENATE COMMITTEE PASSES S.593  The U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works passed the bipartisan Target Practice and Marksmanship Training Support Act, S. 593. The NSSF priority legislation would work to increase access to public shooting ranges by allowing states to allocate a greater portion of Pittman-Robertson funds to be used for their development and maintenance.

PRESIDENT ISSUES PROCLAMATION  President Donald Trump on Friday issued a Presidential Proclamation on National Hunting and Fishing Day 2018, observed Saturday, saying in part, “On National Hunting and Fishing Day, we recognize the important contributions that America’s hunters and anglers make to our society, our thriving economy, and our continued conservation successes nationwide.”

MARKETERS UNITE AT CMO SUMMIT  NSSF’s second annual CMO Summit attracted more than 200 firearms industry marketing leaders from across the country to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, last week. The highly regarded event left attendees with valuable insight and solutions to common challenges every firearms industry marketing professional faces in today’s digital environment.

  • Presidential aspirant Michael Bloomberg is pumping $10 million through his group Everytown for Gun Safety to influence the 2018 midterm elections in Georgia, Michigan, Nevada and New Mexico.
     
  • NSSF urges California residents to call or email Gov. Brown and urge him to veto SB 1100 (raises the firearm purchase age from 18 to 21); SB 1177 (prohibits more than one firearm purchase a month); and SB 1487 (prohibits importation and possession of some legally-taken African species.)
     
  • The State and County of Hawaii appealed a three-judge panel ruling that held that the state couldn’t deny law-abiding Americans the right to keep and bear arms in public.
     
  • ATF Q&A: More great questions came in on our 24/7 NSSF Member Compliance Hotline last week. One question asks, “May we as an FFL use a customer’s name and address information from Form 4473 for our advertisement mailing?”
  • Hunting license data for 2016 from USFWS is posted in the member log in section, under NSSF Industry Research. The report figures indicate that paid licenses increased 0.9 percent over 2015. For a more timely update of license data, refer to the quarterly Hunting License Sales Index Report.
  • The NSSF-commissioned quarterly Hunting license Sales Index Report provides an unusually early preview of hunting license sales data. Log in to the NSSF online store and select the Industry Research link at the top of the screen to access the 2018 Q1-Q2 report.
  • Industry Day at the Range invites potential exhibitors for the 2019 range event to register before September 28 when registration closes. Limited exhibitor opportunities are still available.
  • ​At the Illinois State Suicide Prevention Conference last Friday, NSSF’s Bill Brassard was on a panel discussing firearms and suicide prevention and outlined the AFSP-NSSF Suicide Prevention program.
  • The FBI released its annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR) today, showing a 3.3 percent decrease in the national crime rate for 2017, the 15th consecutive year of crime rates dropping.
  • TownHall.com columnist Kerri Toloczko draws attention to banking and tech giants pushing corporate social policies that are thinly-veiled attempts to limit Second Amendment rights.More than 18 million Americans are legally carrying concealed firearms today, up from 11 million four years ago, according to the U.S. Concealed Carry Association in a Washington Examiner report.
