My Old Remington Model 514

My Old Remington Model 514I couldn’t wait to do a video to shoot my old Remington model 514. So, this evening I took my computer glasses, 15 rounds of Aguila Ammunition and a Lucky Gunner sight-in target, and started shooting.

Out of the 15 rounds at least 8 hit the center, which is smaller than a dime. I was amazed that I didn’t have to readjust. I can never remember Dad or me adjusting this rifle.

After shooting I cleaned it good with my Hoppe’s Boresnake, solvent and gun oil, and gave it a good treatment of Gun Protect by Red Eagle Technologies. The stock has a problem where an old soft case has damage the lacquer finish on the cherry wood, so I applied linseed oil as recommended by Henry Repeating Arms. It still needs something to get the bubbled areas out and where it looks like it is melted, so may have to sand the whole thing, and then start with the oil. However, for the time being it is doing a good job, and especially on the area where the wood no longer has a coating.

Next time I’m going to do some plinking. This should hit the target every time. I’m also going to get out my Dad’s old Stevens model 55, bolt action, single shot 22.

Until next time, shoot safe and have a great day of plinking.
