The new RedHead® Crazy Jake turkey decoy, which features a realistic looking jake in a three-quarter strut position, was built to keep gobblers from hanging up out of range. The Crazy Jake’s apprehensive-looking pose and smaller size are designed to trigger a mature tom’s instincts to rush in and teach the young imposter a lesson.
The Crazy Jake turkey decoy was designed to mimic the exact color, size and posture of an aggressive jake. However, Crazy Jake won’t intimidate a subordinate 2- or 3-year-old gobbler due to the fact it’s about 30 percent smaller than standard strutting decoys. In addition, the decoy’s head, body and wing posture tell any adult gobbler that this adolescent bird is nervous and ready to tuck tail and run.
A true-to-life look is achieved by a taxidermy quality head and eyes, intricate paint and feather detail, and a taxidermy grade 4″ beard, which can be trimmed. Crazy Jake also has a durable rubber body with photo-enhanced wings and fan slot for the included fabric tail fan. Hunters can really fire those longbeards up, though, by replacing the fabric fan with a real turkey fan.
Another way to inject even more realism into a decoy set up is to add movement. The Remote Crazy Jake has a remote strut stake that adds clockwise and counter-clockwise movement with the push of a button to get the attention of any distant gobbler. The Remote Strut Stake uses four AA batteries (not included).
