Partnership Brings Outdoor Skills Training to DVD

Basic lessons in fishing, hunting, and shooting are being offered on DVD through a partnership between the nonprofit School of Outdoor Sports (SOS) and Foley Belsaw Outdoors (FBO). The project is a fundraiser, as proceeds from sales benefit SOS.

Learn to Fish, Learn to Hunt, and Learn to Shoot will be available separately or as a complete set. Initially, they’re available directly from www.foleybelsawoutdoors.com, with plans to offer them at retail and as value-added items through outdoor companies and organizations.

“These are the best overall introductions to our outdoor traditions ever produced,” said Kolt Ringer, Foley Belsaw Outdoors General Manager. “They’ll get anybody quickly past the learning curve and on their way to becoming a lifelong angler, hunter, or shooter.”

By getting these lessons in the hands of more beginners, obstacles to participation are overcome. Providing them on physical DVDs has always been a goal for the School of Outdoor Sports, said Mark Strand, President and Founder. “But until now,” he said, “we haven’t had the funding to create these DVDs. We are extremely grateful to Foley Belsaw Outdoors for its generous pledge of resources that made this project possible.”

The two organizations share a vision for helping grow participation in outdoor sports, and that made the partnership come together naturally.

“SOS has a mission and a focus that we believe in,” said Ringer. “It was an easy decision to support the School and help get more beginners started on the right foot in these great American traditions. We plan to make support for the School an ongoing part of our business.”

FBO’s commitment shows how private-sector outdoor companies care about more than the bottom line, and serves as a template for efforts to increase participation.

“We’ve found a true ally in Foley Belsaw Outdoors,” said Strand. “This is a company that understands it must generate profits to remain in business, but also cares about people, and wants to contribute to the cause of getting more newcomers into fishing, hunting and shooting.”

Notes: All three courses are available as a set for $39.99. Learn to Fish is available separately for $19.95. Learn to Shoot and Learn to Hunt are also available separately, at $9.95 each. Proceeds from each sale benefit the nonprofit School of Outdoor Sports.
