I’m going to make this short and sweet. I love Hunting and Fishing and have actually risked my life as a game warden so don’t get me wrong here. In 1978 I escorted a Biology Professor at Ft Richardson Alaska to help with the a Lead Shot investigation. We covered a huge marsh area with over a million mallard ducks in the eclipse stage, growing in new flight feathers, not able to fly. You couldn’t put your foot down for a mile in any direction without stepping on a duck.
We were looking for unmarked ducks that had died. We found several Fox kills but there weren’t enough foxes to make a difference. I was told to expect to find many dead ducks due to lead shot ingestion but that was not the result. In 3 days we found 1 dead duck, there was no lead found. Pretty lucky duck really, that survived several years along the Pacific Flyway, as the post mortem revealed he died of old age. The Professor confided in me saying this was all a direct idea of anti-hunting (Now Liberal Political Hires) scientist with a long mission to wipe out all hunting. Not everyone in your DNR is a pro hunting advocate contrary to popular belief.
Well we have non-toxic shot for water fowl due to the perfect brain wash but now phase 2, Dove Hunting with the same dubious malarkey, and it continues into all small game hunted with a shotgun. To verify they said that penned pigeons preferred lead shot to aid in digestion in their craws, they didn’t mention the choice they had. The votes from the people always disfavored the non-toxic shot but the small contingency of so called experts made it happen. 20 years later we have all become mesmerized like the Manchurian Candidate. It takes an entire generation to do this.
The last time I was in Texas I saw Dove tornados and they are going to have to show me the millions of dead doves they claim ingest all this lead shot. Slightly embellished I think. After reading the reports it shows a lot of misleading rhetoric with admissions of no real evidence. It seems they are passing regulations on lip service alone.
Lead shot is to Hunters what Monofilament fishing line is to Fishermen neither product is necessary to life. However they work real good in the harvest process. Now here is something you can see. Yes it’s miles (I don’t know how many) of discarded fishing line, lures, hooks and sinkers; both lead and steel that act like snares to decimate wild life of all kinds. I seriously doubt if there is a fisherman out there that hasn’t seen this. So why aren’t the liberal antis complaining about this. That’s easy, the goal is to end hunting and get your guns, they could care less about your fishing line or the wildlife it takes out, they can always blame it on the lead….Pass it on.
