Last Week With The Trout Road Runner

Yesterday, as some of you know who read my post, I was using the very small Panfish/Trout Road Runner for ice fishing, and it worked. I’ll definitely be trying it again. I feel it is best for active fish, but works by being tipped with most of the normal things like Crappie Nibbles and wax worms, as well as having an application of Kick’n Bass Fish Attractants Crappie scent. By dropping it inside the tube the scent will hold longer.

As for the fishing technique, using it like a flipper jig works about as well as anything. This is the easy up and down movement so that the blade waves and flashes. Since it is slightly heavier than many of the panfish jigs used, it will drop quicker to the fish holding area, much like I do with the Custom Jigs & Spins Diamond Jig. The blade will also flutter on the drop as it does when casting in open water. A quick upward movement will rotate the blade, again, like retrieving in open water, so a fish that doesn’t want it to get away at the point might strike.

More will come as the season goes along, depending on safe ice.

Until next time, get out on the water and have a great day of fishing.
