It Was Absolutely Crazy

Last when I headed out it was windy, and was absolutely crazy. With wind speeds up to 40 mph and gust to as high as 50 mph, it seemed to be impossible to fish, but I did.

“I kept Pepper in the Yukon as on a prior he was knocked over by the wind, so I’m sure this day he would have been rolled.

Fishing the float and Natural Forage Baits T-Shad combination was next to impossible with the high wind and white caps. When I was able to cast the combination to the right spot the waves would “over jig” the lure, or make it very difficult to detect a strike. So, It was time to pull out the Blitz Lures LLC Blade.

Yes, I used the Spotted Goby Blade again, but as always, it worked. The Blade saved the day on having several strikes and a couple of fish. Not big bass, but fishing open water, with low 30’s for temps, and in January, is highly unusual in this area, so any bass is a good and welcome bass. Plus, the fight is very hard, especially when using the Berkley Fishing 8′ Steelhead Air Rod.

One other thing I’ve been able to test out the last two days is how well the Habit Outdoors Realtree jacket blocked the wind. It was fantastic, as it was for blocking the rain on New Years Eve day when I was fishing in the pouring rain. I purchased this bomber jacket on clearance sale through Farm & Fleet, as did Don Banning, who is also very pleased with his. It’s warm, waterproof, and windproof – just what a person in the outdoors wants.

It is going to be turning colder for a bit, which will result in more skim to thin ice. Nothing to fish on, but too much to fish open water.

Depending on how the temperature and ice condition is tomorrow, I may try the Rock Island Conservation Club with the T-Shad and Custom Jigs & Spins Ratso and Ratfinkee along with a Berkley Crappie Nibble and Kick’n Bass Fish Attractants Crappie scent.

Until next time, get out on the water, and enjoy a great day of fishing.”
