The idea for X-Shield originated with a simple urge to go sunbathing and a need to protect the face from damaging UV rays. Tom Tredup, President/CEO of Raygear in Tampa, FL came up with a solution to his problem and in the meantime solved some problems for anglers too.
Tredup describes the X-Shield as a hybrid face shield, worn like glasses. They protect your face from rain, bugs and other objects, as well as from UV rays. “They act as a great windshield and when the bugs and the rain hit it you won’t feel a thing,” says Tredup.
Professional redfish angler Capt. Paul Jueckstock is a firm believer in X-Shield. His presence on the redfish circuit introduces him to all kinds of fishing conditions and some of them cause problems. He says X-Shield solves several of those problems for him and makes him a more competitive angler.
One problem he has encountered in the past is his eye protection fogging up and hampering visibility. “The biggest trait the X-Shield has for me,” says Jueckstock, “is the anti fog tendency. That is a huge deal for what I do. I fish in several professional redfish venues and I can only say, I wish I had this 15 years ago. Safety is a big thing whether you’re running 30 or 70 mph on the water.”
