Under the banner of its Work Boots on the Ground conservation program, the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance and a team of union volunteers will hold three Take Kids Fishing Day events in Wisconsin summer, two of which will be held during National Fishing and Boating Week on Saturday, June 6 and 7, and the third event is June 27.
With more than 40 million anglers generating $35 billion in retail sales and $600 million for fisheries conservation and water access improvements through special excise taxes each year, it’s critical to continue recruiting new anglers. These free events will help promote the importance of educating a future generation of American anglers from various communities and backgrounds.
All three Take Kids Fishing Day events are free and open to the public, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Rod and reel sets will be available for use, and lunch will be provided.
Take Kids Fishing Day Events include:
June 6: Carson Park, Braun’s Bay Pavilion
Park Drive ▪ Eau Claire, WI 54701
Co-Sponsored by Laborers Local 773 and 1197
June 7: Pettibone Lagoon
700 Pettibone Drive North ▪ LaCrosse, WI 54601
Co-Sponsored by the Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO
June 27: Vilas (Henry) Park Shelter

Co-Sponsored by the Building & Constructions Trades Council of South Central Wisconsin
“Take Kids Fishing Day is the perfect opportunity to educate our youth on the benefits of fishing and spark a lifelong interest in the sport,” said USA Conservation Manager Ty Brown. “It’s also a great way to show families the abundance of public access opportunities available in their communities.”
The Union Sportsmen’s Alliance Work Boots on the Ground program brings together union members, who are willing to volunteer their time and expertise, to tackle conservation projects that improve public access to the outdoors, conserve wildlife habitat, restore America’s parks and mentor youth in the outdoors in order to pass on America’s outdoor heritage.
