Trophy Catch, The Florida Big Bass Program Works

TrophyCatch Launches New WebsiteHere’s a trophy-sized bass with a past! As FWC biologists were tagging this 12 lb, 15 oz fish, they noticed that it had already been tagged! The original tag had been clipped and submitted to FWC as part of a trophy bass study linked to the TrophyCatch program.

However, a tiny scar and tag remnant told the tale. Tagging records narrowed the fish down to one of three bass that were caught and released by anglers in spring 2011. Those fish ranged in weight from six to eight pounds, meaning this bass grew somewhere in the neighborhood of five to seven pounds over four years. Does catch-and-release for big bass work? Here’s the proof!
