Third Indiana Hunter Injured in Treestand Accident

After reports of two Indiana hunters severely injured in treestand accidents over the past few days, a third Indiana hunter has sustained “significant injury” after a treestand fall.

Hunters should always wear a safety belt when deploying, taking down, or hunting from a tree- or ladder-stand.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources reported 54-year-old Harold L. Combs of Burnettsville told game wardens he had been attempting to remove his stand from a tree when he fell from it.

Combs said he was on the top platform of the 20-foot-high homemade metal stand when it bent, causing him to fall.

After regaining consciousness, he drove to a nearby home and began yelling for help.

Investigators said he sustained significant injury.
