The Shot That Was Never Fired

You might not know it but my family on my mothers side were Fergusons of the Scottish Klan. They first came over to the new world on the 2nd ship after the Mayflower.

The Shot That Was Never Fired

During the Revolutionary War My direct ancestor Patrick Ferguson invented the first breech loading rifle. Only trouble was he wasn’t on our side. As a matter of fact he was in charge of a Sharpshooter unit that wore Green instead of Red Coats, and they were armed with the faster firing Ferguson Rifles.

Now depending on who tells the story down through history this may be absolutely true or not; I think it is. I suppose I genetically got my shooting skills and interests from this genius of a family member. I don’t know about ethics however. It was customary not to shoot officers in the British Army as this was not proper protocol.

It was Patrick Ferguson that saw an American Officer on a White Horse and drew a bead on him at close range. Protocol however prevailed and the shot was not fired at George Washington.

Things are different now in our society and our military as our equivalent to The Green Coats would be a Marine Scout Sniper, and they go for the high ranking enemy officers. Never the less, it makes you wonder if Patrick had made that shot, would we all be speaking English now….Pass it on
