The Most Unpredictable American Game

The Most Unpredictable American GameThe wild boar was first domesticated by the Chinese six thousand years ago. If you turn a bunch of tame hogs lose in a remote area. They will look like this in just a few years. You can compare this with an ivy league Liberal Cup Cake having to fend for himself and turning into Neanderthal.

For those that know, all swine are Sus Scrofa a pig is a pig, meaning they can breed with any pig. They do that in the wild about 3 times a year. Feral Hogs in America are no different than their European counterparts except the ones in Louisiana and Texas are much bigger.

Wild Hogs are just plain tough if you run into a bad boy. More have been brought down with a 22 Long Rifle by Cowboys and Cajuns than anything else, but you just never know. Personally I’ve killed a wild hog with just about every rifle there is, from a 22 to a 45-70. My favorite is the 45-70. The trouble is I never seem to have one when out squirrel hunting and this is when the big ones seem show up.

Because of this I started packing a 22 magnum for small game. Recently the fine Lever Action Henry entered my collection and Most would think it underpowered for hogs, well it is, hogs show up never the less. This is a necessity as Louisiana disallows a center fire weapon unless it is gun deer season. This goes for buckshot or slugs so we are stuck with a rimfire during the off deer season.

A careful shot between the eyes or at the base of the ear will take down a big hog but a little off the mark and your in trouble. I have had hogs run quite a distance with .308, 30-06, 300 Weatherby Magnum and 350 Remington Magnum. I have dumped them in their tracks with 22 long rifle 22 magnum and the 243. The 44 magnum 444 Marlin and 45-70 remain unblemished. Once again you just never know even with perfectly placed shots with anything.

Wild Hogs have infested almost everywhere in the South so if you enter the woods they are there trust me. They cause damage no matter what, everything from rooting up young planted pine trees, destroying habitat, and polluting water supplies. The standing rule is kill everyone you see. Yes they are dangerous, the word potentially dangerous is ridiculous, a Liberal scientific excuse to make some sort of pet out of it. So once again you just never know.

The American Wild Boar is hunted with just about everything including the Bowie Knife, or handcuffed and live captured. Good Catahoula Dogs and Pit Bulls are used. I have seen two killed in action. Don’t let the sun go down on you if you are injured or unconscious in the dark woods or a dismal swamp of Louisiana, because you just might get “Eat Up by the Hogs.” Pass it on.
