The Follower System

The Follower SystemBecause of some paperwork at the funeral home, I had to make my fishing trip a short one.

Pepper and I used several types of lures, with the first strike coming on a Natural Forage Baits Lil Killer, but that was it for that lure.

It ended up that I used what I call a “follower” system. The first lure that was thrown was a 1/4 ounce Black/Blue Blitz Lures LLC Spyder Jig with a Black/Blue Fleck NFB Mad Craw as a trailer. I would get hits on this rig, but no fish, after which I would cast a June Bug NFB R4 finesse worm, Texas rigged on a 1/0 XPoint XGap hook as a follow up. The fish would hit within the same area as the strike came on the Spyder Jig, and was normally a positive hook set.

I’ve used this system a lot with different types of lures, which has been very productive through the years.

There weren’t too many fish caught, but at least there were a couple of good size ones.

Pepper was more interested in exploring things today, in fact he got into some trouble when he took off and out of sight, dragging his long leash. I had to start driving around and found him at the end of an upper silt lake, just by noticing his black flag tail waving in the shoreline weeds.

Until next time, get out on the water, and enjoy a great day of fishing.
