The Challenge of Finding Fish

Fish Lake Guntersville Guide ServiceWhen you approach new waters, or head to your favorite lake for the first time in several weeks the first obstacle to overcome is to find the fish. That old saying “ you got to fish where the fish are,” is very important, you can turn a day of fishing into a day of catching if you understand some basics. First and foremost understands what the basic time of year patterns present for you.

The winter can be very different from the spring and or summer months; as the spawn can be from the pre-spawn; knowing and understanding those basics is front and center to catching fish. There is basically only a few ways to gain this knowledge, either fish every day and follow the fish or read and read until the basic patterns become second nature. Seeing as most folks can’t fish everyday then I suggest you research until you’re comfortable with the patterns. This will give you a basic start every time you are on the water, until you can combine your general pattern knowledge with what you are seeing on your electronics.

Electronics can be your next accomplishment, as today’s technology is actually as reveling and easy to read as a TV screen. Like any type of electronics, there are certain adjustments you need to make with your eyes to be an accomplished fisherman with today’s electronics, but it just requires a few hours of dedicated time to become accomplished. Once you get there you can actually see the fish and see how they are related to the bottom or the structure in your lake. When you can do that it becomes very simple to align yourself with the structure your lake presents.

The next step to me is water color, movement, clarity and structure. When you accomplish finding the fish, aligning your boat to the fish you can visualize on the bottom, then you must get them to bite. Things like water color, water movement, clarity and the structure give you the keys to what color, to fish, whether they will be active or not and if your need to fish slow or fast! These are key items and can lead you to becoming a good fisherman.
