Team Laupa’s Kirsten Weiss Shines in NRA 3-Position Nationals

Taking advantage of some adverse conditions on day two (any sight competition) of the NRA Smallbore Rifle 3-Position Nationals Championships at Camp Perry, Team Lapua’s Kirsten Weiss rose from 8th place to finish as High Woman and Second Place Overall. With the winds howling at over 20 mph, and the temperatures at 25 degrees cooler than day one, Weiss shot consistently in the prone, kneeling, and standing portions to finish behind Tarl Kempley and ahead of Ohio State’s Amanda Luoma in her first visit to Camp Perry since 2003.

Even more amazing was Weiss shooting the any sight match with metallic sights while the majority of the shooters opted for scopes. Weiss captured the Standing portion and finished consistently near the top in prone and kneeling. The NRA National Champion is determined by the competitor with the highest aggregate score in the Any Sight match and the Metallic match.

“I was very happy with my shooting, especially in the tough conditions on day two,” reported Kirsten Weiss. “Back in April I was at the Grand Opening of the Lapua Service Center in Arizona and was able to match test some lots of Midas+ and X-ACT to my rifle and it performed great”

Weiss was a member of the University of Nebraska rifle team, ending her Husker career as a three-time All-American in smallbore and led the Huskers to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. After taking some time away from shooting, Weiss returned in 2011 as a member of Team Lapua and has competed in the World Cup match in Munich, Germany and the Olympic Trials at Fort Benning.
