Swamp Donkey Frog

Swamp Donkey FrogBack in February I blogged about the efforts of Japanese angler/writer/inventor Hideki Maeda to bring back the discontinued Swamp Donkey frog from the scrap heap of angling history. He’s done it, through his Teckel tackle company (say that ten times fast), and I’m now in possession of six of them, in three shades and two different styles – the Whacker and the Honker, the former being a traditional skirted frog and the latter having little metal “feet” that should kick up a fuss on the retrieve.

There will be eight-bazillion EverStart boats out on the Potomac this weekend, so I’m going to drive a little bit further and hit the tidal Chickahominy, which just happens to be in the full swing of frogasm season. I’m sure that since Randy Howell’s victory last week, every bass within five miles of the Walker Dam on the Chick has been hit on the head with a junebug Senko no fewer than a dozen times, so I might as well aggravate them with a frog. As long as I’m committed to that bite anyway, I figure it’s a good time to show them something new…or old…or better…and that’s what I’ve got. News from insideline.net
