Executive Order Requires Secretary Zinke to Review National Monument Designations – On April 26, President Trump signed an Executive Order that directs Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke to review certain “national monument” designations. This review could help the President and Secretary Zinke get a better understanding of how monument designations have adversely affected hunting opportunities.

CBD Files Suit to Challenge the Congressional Review Act and Undermine Alaska’s Wildlife Management – The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) has filed a lawsuit to challenge the constitutionality of the Congressional Review Act. The purpose of CBD’s suit is to invalidate H.J. 69, which nullified a regulation adopted by the FWS that prohibited forms of hunting on all National Wildlife Refuges in Alaska.

HSUS Petition is a Threat to Giraffe Populations, Not Hunting – HSUS has filed a petition seeking “endangered” status for all giraffes under the Endangered Species Act. While we agree that some giraffe populations are in trouble, we disagree that this problem can be solved by an ESA designation.  

Mexican Wolves — Front and Center in Court – The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals has reversed a New Mexico federal district court’s grant of a preliminary injunction that temporarily prevented the FWS from releasing wolves into New Mexico without the state’s permission.  

Florida Wildlife Commissioners Reject Bear Hunt in 2017 and 2018 – On April 19, in disregard of the recommendation of the state’s own wildlife management experts, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission voted 4-3 to reject a black bear hunt in 2017.    

West Virginia Expands Sunday Hunting – SCI applauds West Virginia Governor Jim Justice for signing Senate Bill 345 into law. S. 345 legalizes Sunday hunting statewide on private lands with the written permission of the landowner.
