Pete’s Spring Report

Pete Gluszek Guide ServiceWell wishes to everybody and I hope you all are ready for some outstanding bass fishing opportunities in 2014. Winter has finally started to loosen its grip on us up here in the northeast. The cold winter, ice and heavy snow has kept the cover on my BassCat. Its time to shake off the Cabin Fever and get the boat ready for some spring fishing.

I will begin running guided bass fishing trips and On-Water Training trips March 20th. Fishing will take place on the Chesapeake, Delaware River as well as specially arranged trips to Lake Champlain, Hudson River and a few others. The Chesapeake is always the first body of water in our area to get going. Below is a video from last March ’13.

Water temps will be warming into the 40’s over the next couple of weeks and the largemouth will be looking for feeding opportunities on the Chesapeaeke. March is a time of year that isn’t known for big numbers of fish, but more for the size of fish caught. Anglers often catch their largest fish of the year in March and April. Check out some of these great catches from last year’s March and April trips.

My On-water Training (OWT) trips this time of year revolve around cold water techniques and strategies. Techniques that thrive in cold water are jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, jigs, silver buddies and chatterbaits. Strategies revolve around following the bait. Yellow perch and herring drive fish movements in the early spring on the bay. As part of the OWT trips, I provide a questionnaire designed to discover each angler’s strengths and weaknesses. I then customize the day on the water to help each angler advance their skill set and fishing knowledge. After each trip, I discuss with each angler the things they do well and things they can work on.
