Old Blast From The Past

Today was a Natural Forage Baits, TTI XPoint Hook, Blitz Lures LLC fishing day, with a dash of Frabill where I was using an old “blast from the past” Frabill worm sinker with my Texas rig.

The day started out slow. There were extremely heavy weeds, and a heavy fish kill, but all bluegill and crappie at this point.

Last week Brandon Rogalla and I were fishing the same lake, and using Texas rigged ribbon tail worms. I started with one of my favorite colors, black/blue fleck in the NFB RT-7, and was able to catch a few, along with having a lot of short strikes. Once I switched to a green pumpkin in the same worm, rigged with a TTI XPoint worm hook and Frabill worm sinker, I started getting positive hookups. Since I had been getting a lot of hits with big fish on the black/blue Blitz 3/8 oz Spyder Jig and matching NFB Mad Craw, but none that held on long enough in the very heavy weeds, I decided to try Texas rigging the Mad Craw in the Green Pumpkin color. Bingo! It worked with the next three casts. I also broke a big one off on the hook set, but I did get to see him when he rolled on the weeds.

After a little bit, and a few more fish, I decided to try the Blitz jig/Mad Craw combo again. This time I kept it up slightly, swimming just at the tops of the submerged weeds, and had about 4 more bigger fish.

Of course, Kick’n Bass Fish Attractants was also used. Not using KNB on a soft plastic lure and jig is like leaving the Mayo off of a turkey sandwich.
