New Work Plan May Result in Restrictions on Traditional Fishing Tackle

Keep America FishingAs part of its “Green Chemistry Initiative”, the California Department of Toxic Substances Control is currently targeting various consumer products that it will seek to restrict or ban, and unfortunately fishing tackle is in the crosshairs. Despite a total lack of evidence demonstrating that fishing equipment is negatively impacting aquatic resources or any wildlife populations, a work plan was recently released that identifies “fishing and angling equipment” as a possible product category to be restricted. This could include many common fishing products that contain lead, zinc or copper.

What’s at stake? If anglers like you don’t speak out now, many of the common fishing products you use, like sinkers, jigs and artificial lures could be banned.

An upcoming workshop near you provides anglers an opportunity to speak out against this unwarranted attack against our sport. Please attend and tell the Department of Toxic Substances Control that there is no reason to ban traditional fishing equipment.
