Legacy Ridge: State Park instead of McMansions

The 702 acres that was zoned and approved for building 287 homes is not going to happen, thanks to the pooled efforts of local environmental organizations and activists. This is in the Orange County Town of Woodbury, New York. There’s also a Woodbury on Long Island. Mail delivery must have been a challenge before zip codes. But I digress. A vital wildlife corridor between Black Rock Forest and Schunemunk State Park is now protected. That’s a miracle. I never realized just how many people in my back yard believe that sustainable habitats are more important than  money. It is truly something to celebrate. I took a look around. The town and the developer must have expected this project to go forward. I could not bring myself to photograph the vandalized dilapidated structures.
