King Kat Tournament Results: Pickwick/Wilson Lakes

king kat tournamentThis past Saturday April 12, 2014 the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Pickwick/Wilson Lakes at Sheffield, Alabama. In the event over 65 of the top anglers from 11 different states were competing not only for the cash and prizes, but the

opportunity to qualify for the 2014 Cabela’s King Kat East and West Championship. This year’s West Championship will be held September 19 & 20, 2014 on the Mississippi and Rock Rivers at Quad Cities, Iowa. The East Championship will be held October 3 & 4, 2014 on Lake Wateree at Camden, South Carolina. Be sure to check out our website at: www.kingkatusa.com. Results for the Top 5 Teams

Taking first place was the 3rd generation team of Michael Mitchell of Albertville, Alabama and Sammy and Jackson Mitchell of Russellville, Alabama with a weight of 196.74 pound and earning $3,000.00. Along with first place the Mitchell team also captured big fish of the event with a 86.98 pound catfish and earning an additional $700.00 which nearly beat out a previous record set just a few years earlier. The Mitchell team was fishing mid lake on Wilson in 26 feet of water using skipjack and catching most of their fish early in the morning.

In second place was Justin Hedges of Waddy, Kentucky and Tom Petrowski of Brooks, Kentucky with 126.92 pounds and earning $1,100.00. Justin and Tom were drifting on Wilson in 47 feet of water using small whole skipjack to catch 9 fish for the day.

Third place went to Carl Morris Jr. of Johnstown, Ohio and Jeremy Martin of Columbus, Ohio weighing in 121.42 pounds and earning $400.00. Carl and Jeremy were also fishing Wilson toward the dam in 30 feet of water using both skipjack and shad to catch 5 fish for the day.

Joey and Jerry Pounders of Caledonia, Mississippi took fourth place with a weight of 113.58 pounds and earning $300.00. Joey and Jerry were fishing halfway up Wilson anchored to trees in 30-40 feet of water using live shad. The team caught fish all day long, just no size. Fifth place went to the Killen, Alabama team of Quentin and Douglas Hendrix weighing in 112.52 pounds and earning $200.00. The team fished away from the crowd on Pickwick in 5-10 feet of water using skipjack to catch 10 fish for the day.
