Indian River Fishing Report

Tom Van HornAlthough gusty winds and rain have dominated our weather on the Indian River Lagoon Coast of Florida this past week, we have still managed some very respectable fish targeting protected areas.  This past week combined on a total of 4 different charters we’ve boated over 50 black drum ranging from 15 to 35 pounds.  During the summer, black drum move off of the flats and congregate  in areas of deeper cooler water during the heat of the day. Once located, the drum are easy to catch once they are located.  These drum are strong fighters, so heaver tackle is required to get them to the boat quickly to lessen the stress of the fight making them easier to revive.

Also, we been catching some respectable redfish on the flats in the early morning before the wind kicks up.  For those wishing to book a charter next week, I will be off of the water attending the ICAST Convention in Las Vegas and will be back on July 13th.
