IGFA – Patten’s Dogtooth Tuna Prize

igfa logoBritish angler Jon Patten caught this enormous dogtooth tuna (Gymnosarda unicolor) on November 20th that tipped the scales at a whopping 107.5 kg (236 lb 15 oz) – the heaviest specimen ever recorded by the IGFA. Patten was fishing with IGFA Representative Jason Alexiou off the coast of Tanzania when the huge doggie crushed the live yellowfin tuna Patten was using for bait. After surviving the blistering first run, Patten’s skills and strength were both tested for nearly an hour as he fought the brut on 37 kg (80 lb) tackle. If approved, Patten’s catch will earn him the new All-Tackle world record, which currently stands at 104.5 kg (230 lb 6 oz).
