I Seriously Thought

I seriously thoughtI seriously thought I was going to have two days in a row of being zeroed out on fishing. It took most of the time on the short trip to finally break the ice with a TTI-Blakemore Slab Daddy with a Crappie Nibble, on a nice 12″-plus crappie. The material in the body of the Slab Daddy makes a great holder for using Kick’n Bass Fish Attractants. I was using the Crappie scent.

The weather was nasty to say the least. There were high winds with cold temperatures and rain. That is a miserable combination. Because of this I was sure that the Blitz Lures LLC Blade would be the magic wand, and after tries and retries, it magic finally popped out. The first bass was around 15 inches. Then I lost a very big one. As the weather was getting worse, and Pepper and I were thinking about leaving I hit another nice size bass in the 18-inch range, but nothing the size that I lost.

It seems like there is a Blade color on different lakes that is more productive than others. On this lake it has been the Spotted Goby, which was the case again today, but I’m down to my last one in that color in the 1/2-ounce size. I was going to try some of the new “natural” colors, but will have to wait until next week. This week I wanted to keep from being shut out 2 days in a row.

Fish were hanging in the weeds, and holding very tight. The Slab Daddy was drifted over the beds using the wind to bob it along. The Blade was fished with a rip and pause retrieve, finding that shorter rips of about 1 to 2 feet worked best and with a side sweep rather than a lift and fall.

Until next time, get out on the water, and enjoy a great day of fishing.
