The Multi rig, or Johnny Mac rig as it’s also known, was developed by Mike Kavannagh a number of years back and is a carp rig that is still outwitting many wary old carp. This pop-up carp fishing rig presentation can be used over all types of lakebed and is especially effective for fishing over choddy bottoms.
When set correctly, the hook will sit on the lakebed like a claw, waiting and ready to take hold of any unsuspecting carps bottom lip, making this rig devastatingly effective at turning pick ups into solid hook holds.
Not only is this rig highly efficient at hooking carp, but it also has the added bonus that the hook can be changed extremely easily when needed. This makes it an ideal rig for all commercial carp anglers, where regular casting and playing fish can easily cause hooks to loose they’re sharpness. It’s all well and good using a hook sharpner to give your hooks a new lease of life, but they will never be as effective as a chemically sharpened one straight out of a pack.
This is a rig that I use a great deal in my own fishing. It has seen me land many good fish over the years and is one that I always have full confidence in using.
