Flathead catfish rule Big Cat Quest

Big Cat Quest logo Anglers were greeted with cooler temps and cloudy skies for Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops Big Cat Quest. The weatherman predicted 50 percent chance of showers for the Saturday August 29 event. Only a few of the anglers saw any morning showers, but black clouds rolled in and out all day long keeping the threat of rain high. A small shower came during the weigh in but it was not enough to hamper the event.

It was definitely a family affair in Georgia’s Rome on the Coosa River. The father, mother, son team of Troy, Angie and Dylan Boatwright reeled in the First Place honors by breaking the 90 pound mark. “It was great out there for us today,” said Angie Boatwright following the tournament. “The water was a bit murky, but it all worked out.”

Troy Boatwright gave all the credit to Angie. “She put us on the fish,” said Troy. Dylan identified what catfishing is all about for most anglers. “It was a great day of fishing and I had fun out there today,” remarked Dylan.

The Boatwright’s winning five flathead catfish weighed 91.55 pounds. Tournament organizer, Ken Freeman, commented that it was the first time his tournament had ever been won with all flatheads.

Second Place went to Kenneth Williams and Aaron Churchill from Buchanan GA. “The day started off rough,” said Williams. “We hooked up with a good one early and lost it. We think it was a flathead that took us up under the cover and snapped us off.
