Five Perch Poachers Poached

Poached PerchFined $3,200 for too Many Perch and Fishing Without Licences. Four Greater Toronto Area men have been fined $3,200 for catching too many Lake Simcoe perch and fishing without a licence in Jackson’s Point. Muhammad Husain of Toronto and Habibur Mirza of Burlington pleaded guilty to catching an over-limit of yellow perch from Lake Simcoe and were each fined $800.  

Mohammed Nezamuddin and Abul Kalam Azad of Etobicoke pleaded guilty to fishing without a licence and were each fined $800. In addition, two fishing rods and a tackle box were permanently forfeited to the Crown.

The court heard that on April 21, a conservation officer contacted the four accused and determined they had 220 yellow perch in their possession. Mr. Husain had a sport fishing licence allowing him to keep 50 yellow perch and Mr. Mirza had a conservation fishing licence allowing him to keep 25 yellow perch. Misters Nezamuddin and Azad were angling but neither had a valid fishing licence.

Justice of the Peace Dennis White heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Newmarket, June 7.

An Ohio resident has been fined $2,500 for angling-related offences whikle fishing in Cook’s Bay on Lake Simcoe.

William J. Manypenny pleaded guilty and was fined $2,000 for possessing 119 yellow perch over his daily legal limit and $500 for making a false statement to a conservation officer. In addition to the fines, Mr. Manypenny’s ice-fishing equipment was permanently forfeited to the Crown.

The court heard that on March 10, conservation officers were conducting a patrol on the ice-covered waters of Lake Simcoe and observed Manypenny actively angling. During the inspection, it was determined he had 169 yellow perch in his possession. Mr. Manypenny told officers he had been in Canada for two days, which would allow him to possess a limit of 100. Further investigation revealed he had entered Ontario early that morning, thus, only allowing him the daily possession limit of 50 yellow perch with his sport-fishing licence. Read more….
