DU: New Guns and Gear for 2015

Ducks Unlimited LogoWaterfowling Guns: 1. Remington Rolls Out New V3 Autoloader –Remington expanded its shotgun line this year with the release of the brand-new V3 Field Sport autoloader. Available in a 12-gauge waterfowling model chambered for 3-inch shells, the 7 1/4-pound V3 incorporates the best components of the Versa Max gas cycling system and offers a few innovations. Chief among these are two return springs housed in the action, which simplifies maintenance by eliminating the long, grit-collecting recoil spring common to many autoloaders.

Dual self-cleaning gas pistons in front of the receiver further reduce maintenance and enhance the gun’s balance and handling. The V3 is engineered to handle everything from 2 3/4-inch target shells to heavy 3-inch magnum loads. The lightweight, soft-shooting V3 is available in three finishes: walnut, black, and Mossy Oak Blades camouflage. As a proud partner of Ducks Unlimited, Remington helps  support DU’s conservation efforts. www.remington.com

2. Browning Micro Midas 20 Brings Cynergy to Women, Youth
New to Browning’s line of shotguns for youth and other small-framed shooters is the Cynergy Micro Midas 20-gauge over/under. Though scaled down for smaller shooters, the gun offers the same high-quality features as other Cynergy models, including matte-blued barrels, an engraved silver nitride–finished receiver, Invector-Plus choke tubes, an Inflex Technology recoil pad, and a Reverse Striker mechanical trigger. The Cynergy Micro Midas 20 weighs just over 6 pounds and comes with a 13-inch length-of-pull stock as well as a low-profile receiver for easy pointing and handling. It’s available with 24- or 26-inch barrels and is chambered for 3-inch shotshells. www.browning.com

3. Benelli Introduces Innovative 828U Over/Under
Benelli has broken with tradition to manufacture its first over/under double gun. The 828U is an innovative departure from conventional doubles. Its lightweight aluminum receiver features a free-floating steel plate that slides forward to completely seal both chambers when you close the gun, directing recoil away from the receiver and hinge, and preventing the kind of wear and tear that can loosen the joint between the barrel and breech face on double guns. Another innovation can be found in the gun’s top lever, which not only opens the action but also resets the trigger. Interchangeable shims allow you to adjust cast and drop. Available in 12-gauge with 26- or  28-inch Crio barrels, the 828U comes with five Crio choke tubes  and is chambered for 3-inch shells. www.benelliusa.com

4. Beretta A400 Xtreme Gets Realtree MAX-5 Makeover
Beretta’s A400 Xtreme Unico autoloader is now available in Realtree MAX-5 camo. Under this handsome new finish is the same sturdy waterfowling gun built to withstand the elements and ward off rust and corrosion. The A400 Xtreme controls felt recoil via two Kick-Off hydraulic dampeners built into the stock. Kick-Off Mega, a third hydraulic reducer, is designed to minimize muzzle rise. A MicroCore shock-absorbing recoil pad dampens the remaining recoil, which is already diminished by the gun’s gas-operated autoloading system. A400 Xtreme 12-gauge guns are chambered for 3 1/2-inch shotshells and are available with 26-, 28-, or 30-inch barrels. www.berettausa.com

5. Weatherby Introduces Orion Over/Under
Weatherby has been steadily adding shotgun excellence to its long-standing reputation for magnum rifles. This year the company augments its strong line of pump and autoloader waterfowling guns with a new 12-gauge over/under. With its gloss-finished walnut stock and blued barrels, the Orion has the handsome looks of a classic upland bird gun. Several features, however, make it equally useful in  the duck blind. These include 3-inch chambers and a Pachmayr Decelerator butt pad that will help absorb the recoil of stout waterfowl loads. The Orion is available in 26- and 28-inch models and comes  with chrome-lined barrels, automatic ejectors, three choke tubes, and a matte-finished ventilated rib. www.weatherby.com

6. Syren Answers Call for Women’s Shotguns
A division of Caesar Guerini and Fabarm, Syren USA is dedicated to making over/under and autoloading shotguns designed specifically for women. The Syren XLR5 Waterfowler is one of the company’s newest offerings. A gas-operated 12-gauge autoloader in Realtree MAX-5 camouflage, the XLR5 weighs just a tad over 7 pounds and features a stock tailored to fit women. The gun’s length of pull is 13 3/4 inches, and its light overall weight improves speed and handling. Felt recoil is reduced by Syren’s stainless-steel Pulse Piston gas system, allowing women to shoot without absorbing the punishment doled out by heavy waterfowl loads. XLR5s are built in both right- and left-handed versions, and chambered for 3-inch shells in 28-inch barrels that ship with five choke tubes. www.syrenusa.com

The 930 and 935 Magnum Duck Commander Pro Series autoloaders feature competition-proven components. An engraved receiver with a DC Pro Series logo, Realtree MAX-5 camouflage,  a Truglo fiber-optic front sight, and three interchangeable choke tubes  are just some of the components offered with these guns. The 930 is chambered for 3-inch shells and the 935 handles 3 1/2-inch magnums. A quick-empty release button clears the magazine reservoir with one activation. www.mossberg.com
