DSC Cheers Passage of Proposition 6

DSC LogoTexas voters approved a ballot measure to add an amendment to the state’s constitution on Tuesday, guaranteeing people the right to hunt, fish and harvest wildlife. A triumph for the rights of sportsmen and women in the state, the amendment identifies hunting and fishing as the preferred methods of managing and preserving wildlife.”This is an important win for all Texans, as well as future generations of hunters and anglers in the state,” DSC Executive Director Ben Carter said. “The future of wildlife and habitat hinges solely on the continued availability of funds generated by hunters and anglers. If the right to hunt, fish and harvest is not guaranteed, the future of wildlife and habitat cannot be guaranteed.

“I’m proud of DSC for being the driving force to get this important piece of legislation on the ballot and thank the NRA for its help in bringing voters to the polls on Tuesday.”

The approved Proposition 6 preserves Texas’ hunting heritage for generations to come and protects it against future attacks from anti-hunting organizations. Deeply rooted in the culture of Texas, hunting and fishing have a major economic impact on the state. Hunters and anglers in the Lone Star State combine to spend $4.1 billion annually and support 65,993 jobs.
