REMINGTON GRANTED CASE STAY The Connecticut Supreme Court granted Remington Arms a stay in the Soto v. Bushmaster case as it appeals the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court. The state Supreme Court allowed the case to move ahead based on a narrow interpretation of Connecticut’s Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA). Remington will not have to turn over discovery materials while the appeal is pending.

NSSF SUPPORTS OVERSEAS U.S. TROOPS — YOU CAN TOO The U.S. has more than 175,000 troops stationed overseas at any given time, and care packages are always welcomed. NSSF recently sent 75 pounds of items to our CFO John Smith’s daughter, 1st Lieutenant Emma Smith, and her unit in the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division stationed in Kandahar, Afghanistan. You can send your own care package to those stationed overseas with info from the U.S. Postal Service.

PATRON MEMBER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS Employees and qualifying family members of companies that support NSSF at the highest level can apply for education aid through the NSSF Patron Member Scholarship Program.   • NSSF applauds U.S. House of Representatives Republican Whip Steve Scalise’s (R-La.) introduction of H.R. 2443, the Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act.
  • Louisiana’s House of Representatives passed House Bill 413 which would protect firearms businesses from financial sector discrimination solely because they are involved in the lawful commerce of firearms or ammunition products.
  • Delaware Democratic Senate leadership will hear testimony on SB 63, to ban “assault weapons,” SB 70, which bans standard-capacity magazines, and SB 82, to implement standards to purchase a firearm and limit how often one can buy. The hearing will be held Wednesday May 8, at 2:30 p.m. in the Senate Chamber.

  • The April 2019 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 992,642 is a decrease of 6.9 percent compared to the April 2018 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1,065,927. Log in to see the full data.
  • Fifty-two million people participated in target and sport shooting in the U.S. in 2018. NSSF members can download a free research report entitled “Sport Shooting Participation in the U.S.” to learn more about today’s target shooters
  • NSSF knows that access to places to hunt and shoot is one of the biggest obstacles for hunters and recreational shooters. The “Range Bill” will help alleviate that by making it easier for states to create more accessible and safe ranges.

  • Payton DeTavernier became the first girl to win the Cornhusker Trapshoot Cup, a three-day event attracting more than 2,400 student athletes. A junior, DeTavernier has competed in the Cornhusker since the seventh grade.
  • USA Shooting has hired Will Anti to become the Paralympic Shooting Program’s team coach/manager as of June 1. Anti is an NCAA champion and captain of the West Virginia University Rifle Team.
