Anti- fishing/ hunting folks

PETA LogoWell, some may believe that the threat to fishing and hunting has passed by, but I’m here to say that it hasn’t. It is still active and using the same old tactics. There are major and sizable as well as very rich organizations, ones I’ve written about before, that are out to do away with all fishing and hunting. Now, I’m not even going to mention those groups in today’s column, most of you know who they are anyway, I just want to present a personal experience or two.

For example, while fishing over on the Pere Marquette River recently, and doing my usual trick of whipping the waters to a froth and festooning my fly line in the overhead trees while catching no fish, two women somehow sneaked up behind me.

“What are you doing to those poor fish?” came a sudden question that surprised me enough to scare a year’s growth rate from me.

Well, I spun around in the water and there stood the two women on the bank, angry looks on their faces as though they really meant business.

I reeled in my fly line and replied casually, “I’m fishing of course. Not doing much catching today, but enjoying it anyway.” Read more from Ed Gilbert….
