Anglers for Conservation February Newsletter

Anglers Of ConservationAs an outdoor photojournalist, there’s never a shortage of topics to pull from when looking for inspiration to write. In this newsletter, I’ve often touched on the importance of protecting water quality, restoring healthy sea grasses and other marine habitats. Today it’s easy to see the importance of conservation if we want to sustain recreational fishing.

Anglers for Conservation has shared the fundamentals and values of recreational fishing with thousands of young children, teenagers, parents, and veterans. But if we don’t start better protecting our waters and the habitats fish depend on to live, all the time we’ve spent teaching will go to waste.

To better understand the assault against clean water, please read the link below.

Quest for the Suwannee

by Paul Macinnis

What started out as a writer’s conference turned into a quest for a fish that seldom grows more than a pound.  Along the way I lost a fishing rod, got attacked by a swarm of wasps, ran into Naked Ed, and paddled a river from nowhere.

I was in Lake City for the Florida Outdoor Writers Association annual conference.  A chance meeting with fisheries biologists from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission swayed me from my writing endeavors.  When the conversation turned to Suwannee bass my ears perked up with the thought of adding a new species to my fishing bucket list.
