Amelia Island Fishing Reports – January 2016

Captain’s Message…..I’m looking forward to another great year of fishing in 2016. We’ll be getting nice Redfish around the logs and dock pilings in the winter months, chase some tailing Reds in the Spring and we’ll toss some top water lures to Trout, too! In the Summer, I’ve found a great spot to catch some feisty Mangrove Snapper and I plan to have heavier tackle on board for catching

Tarpon in the back country. If you’re planning a trip to Amelia Island or have visitors coming to town, Email me and we’ll set up a fishing trip!

December Fishing Report..
Believe it or not, the weather and water were so warm early in the month we were still catching Mangrove Snapper, and most had some nice size to them. We had a windy spell for a few days but still managed to get out and catch some nice fish. We wrapped the month up with at ton of visitors to Amelia Island and they were rewarded with one big Redfish bite after another!  Here’s a video of a December angler catching a nice Redfish.
January Fishing Forecast..
Those big Redfish and Seatrout will be hiding from the dolphin so you have to catch them on the warm mud flats or find them hiding around some structure. With my boat, we fish the structure! If you can still find mud minnows, use them to toss on a jig up near the pilings, rocks, or downed logs. Let the jig sit and the minnow wiggle. You gotta fish sloooowww and let the Redfish find the bait. On high and incoming tides fish live shrimp over flooding oyster beds and catch Seatrout. You can also catch nice Sheepshead in the same areas on shrimp. Here’s a young angler landing a huge Redfish last January.
