12 Year Old Breaks State Fishing Record

Lawson Boyte catfish 2 KNOE Channel 8 Reported: Lawson Boyte a 12 year old from Oak Grove who caught a big one while fishing in the Mississippi River. He reeled in a catfish bigger than him while fishing the Mississippi river breaking the Louisiana record. The 114 pound catch was a surprise to Lawson, who admits he was not expecting the massive fish to fall for a little piece of bait at the bottom of the Mississippi River. He believes his lucky snack played a big part in the catch. It was more luck than it was skill to catch that big fish. I think the thing that done it was eating Vienna sausages.” The fish was too big to go in a regular sized freezer, so accommodations were made in the concession stand at Oak Grove High School. The catfish will be sent to the department of wildlife and fisheries to determine it’s species and age.
