Original Moose Painting to Auction

Original Moose Painting to AuctionFew items in the world of sporting collectibles are more desirable than the vintage bullet boards and original promotional art associated with legendary firearms and ammunition manufacturing companies. Famous artists like A.B. Frost, Henry Rankin Poore, Philip R. Goodwin and Lynne Bogue Hunt created some of their finest work for these purposes. On the rare occasions they become available, these original paintings sell for staggering prices and vintage bullet boards are hammered down in excess of $20,000.

The Hunting Heritage Trust is pleased to offer one of the most exceptional items it has ever presented at auction, the original “Nosler moose” painting by Lorenzo Ghiglieri. One of the finest and most dynamic wildlife artists of recent times, Ghiglieri’s art is extremely collectible. His prints alone can bring several thousand dollars with originals commanding well into the five figures. Combining Ghiglieri’s talent with the storied history of Nosler bullets and the related use of this image makes this auction a true once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Those familiar with Nosler history will appreciate the significance of the moose, as company founder John Nosler started his bullet making business after being disappointed with the performance of conventional bullets on a big bull he encountered.

The painting is a gouache on board and measures 26 inches by 13.5 inches as matted. The artist’s signature is visible above the matte. Commissioned circa 1975, this image was used as the background art for the first Nosler bullet board. In all or part, it was also used on the cover of Nosler Reloading Manuals numbers one, two, three and five, as well as many of the Nosler catalogs, posters and print advertisements that appeared through much of the 1970s and 1980s. Even today, it remains one of the most recognized images ever used in the association with the shooting sports. Additionally, this painting has never been offered for sale.

Those interested in participating in the auction or viewing additional images will find complete information at gunbroker.com under item number 410793703. The auction is scheduled to conclude April 30th.

The Hunting and Shooting Sports Heritage Trust has been established by leaders from conservation and sporting groups, the firearms and outdoor equipment industry and by dedicated volunteers to help respond to serious challenges that face our hunting and shooting sports heritage and to take advantage of exciting opportunities to welcome a whole new generation of hunters, shooters and supporters.
