New Mississippi records for Black Driftfish, Almaco Jack

John Reed GuiceThe Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources has certified two state fishing records this week. The records were certified at a Tuesday meeting. John Cuevas, of Pass Christian, set the convention tackle record for the black driftfish (Hypercoglyphe bythites). The fish weighed 23 pounds and 3.84 ounces. The previous record was 15 pounds and 7.2 ounces and was set Aug. 13, 2007.John Reed Guice, of Biloxi, established a fly-fishing record for the Almaco Jack (Seriola rivoliana). The fish weighed 4.48 ounces, according to the CMR.
