TGOIt’s been an unusual start to the ice season.  Early November started cold and allowed formation of a great ice base, but now, mid-December, temperatures have risen in the mid 40’s and been accompanied most days by strong winds and ample rain.  These are not good conditions for sustaining ice.

I’m concerned, because we have plans to film an episode of Tom Gruenwald Outdoors (TGO Fishing) on Lake Superior this coming weekend.  Indications aren’t good.  Other than a few select pockets within the state, ice conditions have not only deteriorated, but melted entirely—and now, just two days before our scheduled trip, my worst fears are confirmed.

“Not an uncommon thing, Aron.  No worries.  Can we go with a plan B?”

“I don’t know what to say,” Aron responds, his mind locked in on the Lake Superior trout outing.  “There’s absolutely no ice anywhere on Chequamegon Bay.”
