The 2014 World Field Championships were held in Zagreb, Croatia at the beautiful Maksimir Park. Field Archery is said to test all aspects of an archers’ skill with variances target size, distance and terrain. The 2014 put the world’s best to the test, and Team Hoyt shooters rose to the top!
In Men’s Compound, Jesse Broadwater (USA) dominated all week long with top scores in qualification and in every elimination round, leading to a tightly contested final that ended in a tie. The tiebreaker being a one-arrow, closest-to-center shoot off. Broadwater’s arrow launched from his Pro Comp Elite FX and found the mark, hitting exact dead center at 60 meters to claim his second straight World Field Championship.
Team USA Olympic medalist Brady Ellison (USA) got a shot at redemption against Jean-Charles Valledont. Valledont had defeated Ellison in the Men’s Recurve Gold Medal Match at the 2013 World Games in Cali, Colombia; and the two Formula Quattro shooters met again in the final in Zagreb, with Ellison claiming Gold this time.
In Women’s Recurve, Lisa Unruh shot steady all week long. The German was able to maintain poise in the Gold Medal Final, piloting her GMX/Quattro combo to a six-point victory to claim a World Championship Gold Medal.
Also claiming medals for Team Hoyt were Slavko Turisc (Slovenia – Men’s Compound Bronze), Ivana Buden (Croatia – Women’s Compound Silver) and Sandrine Vandionant (France – Women’s compound Bronze).
